The Celebrating Excellence awards went to Peggy Ehardt, the learning coach at Cooper Middle School; Pam Cotter, LMC assistant at Field Elementary; Christine Kantenwein, Jennifer Klein, Mike Pasterz, Rose Guarrine and Vicki Hallman, the fifth-grade team at Frost Elementary; Elaine Margaritas, exploratory teacher at Holmes Middle School; Janelle Kulisch, third-grade teacher at Kilmer Elementary; Nancy Gehlbach, sixth-grade teacher at London Middle School; Ryann Rivers, Kelly Roberts and Carol Tomlinson, the third-grade teaching team at Longfellow Elementary; Rob Szlanecki, learning coach at Poe Elementary; Paula Carlson, Lisa Cohen and Holly Hoeninger, fifth-grade teaching team at Riley Elementary; Michelle Morrone, music teacher at Tarkington Elementary; Colleen Evens, music teacher at Twain Elementary; and Chris Zima, the 4th grade teacher at Whitman Elementary.

Saying goodbye: Peggy Cooney, the administrative assistant at Chicago Executive Airport, took her place at her final airport board meeting last week.

"Everybody's been very, very kind," she said. "You've taught me aviation. You've taught me what a real family is."

Amidst tears, Cooney bid farewell to board members. She's moving out of state after working at the airport for nine years.

"You've always been exceptionally pleasant," said Dennis Rouleau, the airport manager.

Calling all seniors: The Buffalo Grove Friends of the Parks Foundation, along with the village and the park district, will host the 8th annual Senior Citizen Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The expo brings together vendors who specialize in products for senior citizens.

It will be at the Arboretum Club, 401 Half Day Road, Buffalo Grove.

The event will also include raffle prizes and a free hot dog lunch to the first 250 people.

Paying respects: The Wheeling village board on Monday honored the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps from Northwest Suburban High School District 214 for the work it did over the winter for the seniors in town.

The group from Wheeling High School volunteered to do free snow removal for the seniors throughout the winter months.

"This is a very important program," Interim Village President Pat Horcher said of the training corps. "It opens up a lot of possibilities for them."
