Arlington Heights bicyclist collides with SUV

A 50-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized with injuries to the head and both legs after a collision with an SUV, Arlington Heights police said today.

The accident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at Palatine Road and Kennicott Drive.

The Arlington Heights bicycle rider was southbound on Kennicott and ran a red light, Officer David Hajek said. He was struck by a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero XL SUV driven by a 29-year-old woman from Waukegan, police said. The bicyclist was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with injuries that didn't appear to be life-threatening.

Citations are pending for the bike rider, Hajek said.
