Elk Grove projects surplus, approves sites of cameras

Elk Grove Village Tuesday backed a new spending plan.

Trustees unanimously approved spending $80.3 million this year, including an 18 percent drop in general fund spending.

The village is planning $41 million in general fund spending against $42 million in revenues -- for a narrow surplus.

"We are in very good financial shape," Mayor Craig Johnson said.

Spending for the $32 million new police and administration project, which is on target to open next spring, wasn't included in the plan, officials said. No major capital projects are planned, they said.

Elk Grove Village is setting aside $1 million for its legal battle against new runways at O'Hare International Airport.

In other village news, trustees approved the locations for traffic cameras that will help nab drivers who run red lights.

The cameras will be posted at Busse Road and Oakton Street and at Busse Road and Devon Avenue.

They are expected to be in operation by Memorial Day weekend, Johnson said.
