Briefs: Piano recital today
Joe Conway of North Aurora and Carolyn Crane of St. Charles are among Aurora University piano students featured in a spring recital at 4 p.m. today in Perry Theater in the Aurora Foundation Center for Community Enrichment at 1305 Kenilworth Place in Aurora. Admission is free. Performers are students of instructors Sung Ha Kim and Rose Marie Wood.
East to present 'Barnum'
St. Charles East High School drama students will present the musical "Barnum" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Norris Cultural Arts Center, 1040 Dunham Road, with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday. Tickets are available at the door for $5 for students and senior citizens, and $7 for adults. "Barnum" is the story of famed circus showman P.T. Barnum.
Youth musician auditions
The Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance will hold auditions for the coming season of Fox Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras and associated ensembles Saturday and Sunday and May 3 and 4. Township brush pickup
The next St. Charles Township brush pickup date is Monday. Unincorporated St. Charles residents should call the township road district office at (630) 584-3496 the Friday before each pickup and leave their address if they have brush to be picked up.
Retreat volunteers needed
The Association for Individual Development is looking for volunteers to help run its annual retreat from May 30 through June 1. Located at Wild Rose Program Center in St. Charles, it is for individuals with disabilities age 18 and older. Ideally, 15 volunteers are needed to assist with the 33 adults that the facility can accommodate. Scheduled activities for the weekend will include cooking out, sports, crafts, games, nature studies and campfires. For those interested in attending, cost for residents of Kane, Kendall or DeKalb counties and Hanover Township is $150. For nonresidents, it is $185. Special Olympics charity:
Campton Hills police are raising money for the Special Olympics by selling pins, hats and T-shirts. The items bear a Special Olympics logo and are available on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at village hall, 40W115 Campton Crossings Drive, Unit B. Pins cost $5 while hats and shirts are $15 each. Proceeds benefit the annual Special Olympics Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraiser through the Kane County Chiefs of Police Association. Call (630) 584-0330.
