Kane County park may debut with parking limits

A Kane County committee Monday recommended restricting street parking in the Mill Creek subdivision.

Under the proposal, on-street parking would be prohibited on Main Street from Wyatt Drive past South Mill Creek Drive, as well as on South Mill Creek Drive.

Parking would be prohibited on one side of both South Hyde Park and Wyatt Drive.

The new restrictions would be put in before the new South Mill Creek Community Park in the subdivision opened and would be needed for safety reasons, said Jim Eby, director of planning and development for the Batavia Park District.

When talking to residents about designing the park, they had asked for the restrictions, he said. The roads are not wide enough to accommodate that parking, he said.

The park, which includes soccer fields, tennis courts, walking paths and a playground, is expected to be done in June, Eby said.

It will also include a picnic shelter, fitness stations and a sensory garden for children with disabilities, he said.

There will be a parking lot in the park with 24 spaces, and the park district is talking with First Baptist Church officials about using spaces in that parking lot when there are no church events.

The measure still has to be approved by the county board.
