Chicago Force derails Detroit, 18-7

The Chicago Force ran its women's tackle football record to 2-0 Saturday with its first win ever against five-time national champion Detroit Demolition.

Detroit was 7-0 against Chicago in the series before the Force picked up the 18-7 win Saturday.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Force scored oon its first series in the second quarter. Running back Melissa Smith (22 for 122 yards rushing) gained 5 and 14 yards on consecutive carries to set up quarterback Sami Grisafe's 38-yard touchdown pass to wideout Brandi Srda.

After a muffed punt, Detroit scored just before halftime on a 13-yard pass play to Nicole Randolph to take a 7-6 lead.

In the second half at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago, the Force defense shut down Detroit.

Another special teams error gave Chicago the ball at the 8-yard line before Force tight end Kim Marks grabbed a TD toss for the winning touchdown with 10:57 left in the game. A two-point conversion failed.

With 2:32 to go in the game, Marks leveled a Detroit running back and Chicago's Keesha Brooks pounced on the ball in the end zone for her first career score.

The Force will travel to Wisconsin to take on the Warriors at 7 p.m. Saturday.
