Haydar lifts Wolves in OT
MILWAUKEE -- Captain Darren Haydar scored 2 goals, including a power-play score 14:08 into overtime, to help the Chicago Wolves earn a 4-3 playoff victory over the Milwaukee Admirals on Sunday at the Bradley Center.
The Wolves lead 2-1 in the best-of-seven West Division semifinals. Game 4 is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Bradley Center.
With the Admirals a man down after a tripping penalty in the extra frame, the Wolves' Jason Krog fired a long shot that goaltender Pekka Rinne blocked. But Haydar pounced on the rebound and scored.
"I got lucky, it bounced out to me and I was able to put it over Pekka," Haydar said. "This is a huge builder for our team. We have to start believing in each other, but we did find a way to win tonight."
For the third straight game, the Wolves led 2-1 heading into the third period.
But Josh Langfeld scored twice in the opening 4:03 of the third to put the Admirals ahead 3-2.
The Wolves' Kevin Doell knotted the score 3-3 at the 11:24 mark when he converted on a short-handed breakaway.
"That short-handed goal by Kevin Doell could have changed the series," Haydar said.
Wolves goalie Ondrej Pavelec stopped 27 shots.
The Admirals drew first blood when a shot by Kelsey Wilson ricocheted off a defenseman's skate in front of the net 12:05 into the first period.
The Wolves' Jesse Schultz responded at 16:24 of the first period to tie things up.
A 5-on-3 power play resulted in Haydar's first score of the postseason, a quick chip to the back of the net that gave the Wolves a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
