Fire shut down in 1-0 loss to Wizards
BRIDGEVIEW -- Jack Jewsbury scored early for Kansas City and the Wizards shut down the Chicago Fire the rest of the way for a 1-0 win Sunday at Toyota Park.
Four minutes in, Kansas City's Claudio Lopez found Jewsbury open on the left side of goal. Jewsbury sent a high shot into a wide-open net.
Wizards goalkeeper Kevin Hartman had five saves and the Wizards held the Fire scoreless for the first time this season, despite 19 shots. Kansas City is 2-13-1 in Chicago.
Chicago had 10 shots in the first half, with Chad Barrett getting the best chance in the 40th minute. Defender Gonzalo Segares crossed to Barrett, who had a wide-open net but sent the ball over the top.
In the 65th minute, the Fire's Andy Herron made a run toward goal but was called offsides.
The Fire continued to send shots toward the goal but failed to convert.
The Wizards (3-1-1, 10 points) moved into first place in the Eastern Conference. The Fire (2-1-1, 7 points) are in third.
