Holy Cross dinner
Holy Cross Catholic Church in Batavia will hold a fundraising dinner for its new education and community center at 7 p.m. Friday at Eagle Brook Country Club in Geneva. The event will feature hors d'oeuvres, a buffet dinner, desserts and auctions. Tickets are $75 each and can be bought at the church office, 2300 Main St., or by calling (630) 845-9505. The center is scheduled to be completed at the end of the summer.
Arbor Day celebration
The St. Charles Tree Commission will celebrate Arbor Day with live music, refreshments and a tree dedication at 4 p.m. Friday at Lincoln Park, along Main Street between Fourth and Fifth streets. The free get-together also will feature a certified arborist who will be on hand to answer questions about tree care. Visitors receive a free perennial plant from Midwest Groundcovers.
Orchestra raising money
The Wredling Middle School orchestra will have its third annual pancake breakfast fundraiser from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the school cafeteria, 1200 Dunham Road. Admission is $5 and includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, coffee and orange juice, as well as a live orchestra performance. Proceeds go toward buying new instruments. Pavarotti tribute concert
The late Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti will be honored at a tribute concert May 3 at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. Pride contest opens
Entry forms are due May 2 for the Mid-Valley Neighborhood Improvement Association Inc.'s Neighborhood Pride Week contest. The week is May 18 to 24. Properties in Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles cities and townships are eligible. Remodeling categories include landscaping, exterior (includes landscaping/painting), additions, exterior renovation (includes new and historic) and commercial. Forms are available at www.mvnia.org or by calling (630) 584-1996. MVNIA provides resources to rehabilitate, maintain and preserve our neighborhoods. MVNIA's Emergency Home Repair Fund assists moderate-income families in maintaining safe living conditions.
