Church celebrates 50th anniversary
Westminster Presbyterian Church of Elgin is planning an evening of celebration to commemorate its 50th anniversary.
The banquet will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at Randall Oaks Golf Club in West Dundee.
The speaker for the evening will be Bryan Chapell, president of Covenant Theological Seminary.

Froggy to visit kids at Borden library
The Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin, is celebrating Children's Day/Book Day from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Bring your family and celebrate with the library staff.
The celebration will be held in Rooms A, B and C. Bring your camera -- Froggy is coming to visit.
Quilt show set in Hampshire
Judy's Quilt and Sew and the Friendship Star Stitchers will hold their annual quilt show from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Hampshire Middle School, 560 S. State St. More than 200 quilts will be on display; there will be a silent auction, a Dear Jane Display, 2007 Mystery Unveiling and a Quilt Bed Turning Exhibit.
Proceeds from the show, excluding rental fees, will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Coalition and the Gilda Club of Chicago. Last year $2,000 was raised and donated equally to both organizations.
Admission is $5; children age 12 and younger are admitted free. The public is invited to participate and attend.

Enjoy a hike through the woods
From 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, official Earth Day, join district naturalists of Kane County Forest Preserve District for a guided hike through Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve in St. Charles. The group will explore the woods and fields and learn about our connections to the natural world.
