Blind woman shares her experience with third-graders

Recently, St. Margaret Mary students met Celine Bush, who is blind.

Bush came to the school to tell students what it is like to live with a disability. She explained how she uses her other senses to navigate different environments. She also brought in equipment necessary for her to participate in activities and events, and everyday tasks as other people would; a typewriter, walking stick, books and her guide dog, Kelly, a yellow Labrador.

Bush also explained how she was taught at school and the various jobs she has had. She even showed the students sign language.

The students were left with a better understanding of how to accept differences and learned to look at a person beyond their appearances and disabilities.

Bush came to the school thanks to the coordination of a dedicated volunteer and parent, Val Ricotta.
