Woman accused of stealing Little League funds
A lawsuit filed by the Illinois Attorney General's office accuses a former treasurer of the Melrose Park Little League of stealing more than $24,000 from the league's two bank accounts.
According to the lawsuit, Lisa Zito diverted the money over a ten-month period beginning in May of 2003.
Zito, however, told the Chicago Tribune that others in the association were responsible for the missing funds. She says her tires were slashed and she suffered other harassment after she raised questions about the league's finances in 2005.
The lawsuit asks a court to award civil penalties and require Zito to pay restitution and fully account for how the money was spent.
