Not the best writing on the railroad

The April 13 article in the Daily Herald about the proposed sale of the E J& E railroad has prompted me to finally write a letter about it.

The picture was not even on the E J & E. It was on the Union Pacific. The E J & E doesn't even pass through the village of Wayne. It crosses Army Trail Road about one-tenth of a mile east of the village, passing through Pratt's-Wayne Forest Preserve.

I don't really see how Wayne has a whole lot to complain about. Other communities yes, but not Wayne.

One other error that I might as well mention occurred in an editorial a few weeks ago. The railroad was called "The Canadian Northern." When anybody can't even get the name right, how much is their opinion worth?

I have another viewpoint that I will include here. The railroad has been paying taxes to a lot of communities for a lot of years, and that was OK. But now somebody wants to use it for the purpose for which it was intended, and that's a different story.

I once read a cute little comment in a letter to the editor about a situation about like this, and it seems to fit -- when you live in a swamp, expect frogs!
