Winds blow toddler into Lake Michigan
Authorities say high winds blew a toddler's stroller into the cold water of Chicago's Belmont Harbor, nearly killing him.
The Chicago Fire Department says the 2-year-old's grandfather jumped into the harbor yesterday afternoon in an attempt to save the child and had to be pulled from the water himself.
The child was reported in critical condition late last night at Children's Memorial Hospital. He was unconscious when pulled from the harbor, and reportedly had been underwater for nearly 15 minutes.
The grandfather, who appeared to be in his 60s and reportedly spoke very little English, was in fair condition at St. Joseph Hospital, where he was being treated for exposure.
