Two accused of making threats at Grayslake schools
Bomb threats at two Grayslake schools have resulted in the arrests of a teenager and a 10-year-old boy.
Xadon L. Ivory, 17, of 24065 Haida Lane, Lake Villa, was charged with felony disorderly conduct in connection with two threats scrawled April 4 in a Grayslake North High School bathroom. He's free on a $75,000 recognizance bond.
Grayslake police Cmdr. Matt McCutcheon said Ivory told authorities in an interview he wrote the bomb threats on the walls because of racial slurs he previously found in a school restroom.
"He's saying that's what prompted him, his revenge," McCutcheon said Friday.
McCutcheon said the 10-year-old will be charged as a juvenile for writing a threat on a boys bathroom mirror at Grayslake Elementary District's Frederick School on Wednesday. Frederick serves fifth- and sixth-graders.
The two arrests are not connected, police said.
Similar incidents this week at Grayslake Middle School remain under investigation, police said.
McCutcheon said a Grayslake North hallway security video led to Ivory's arrest Monday. He said investigators deduced when Ivory entered the washroom before the threats were discovered.
In the case of the 10-year-old, authorities said, he told classmates about writing the threat. That chatter led police to the boy, McCutcheon said.
McCutcheon said police fielded several calls from concerned parents regarding the threats. While police believed they were hoaxes, he said, each was taken seriously.
Students should take notice of the arrests and understand there are ramifications from bomb threats in schools, McCutcheon said.
