Police: Elgin man had hallucinogenic mushrooms

Elgin police seized more than 100 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms during a search Thursday, officials said.

Kyle L. Richards, 38, of 4 Pioneer Park Place, Elgin, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, police said.

Police said they found two separate Psilocybin mushroom operations in various stages of growth with a weight of 101 grams.

Richards was booked and then provided an impromptu video statement detailing the various steps in growing hallucinogenic mushrooms, police said.

Richards was unable to post a $500 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail.

His next court date is scheduled for May 5.
