Last closure for the Batavia bridge?
Here we go again.
The Wilson Street bridge in Batavia is scheduled to be closed for 16 days starting Monday.
It's supposed to be the last long closure of the project.
There's still some details that don't impact traffic that will need to be done, and a few parking spots will be taken up by workers for a while after May 6.
But come that date, the vast majority of the construction should be done, with one lane in each direction and parking on the bridge returned.
Given the project's record -- already four months behind schedule -- it's understandable if residents are skeptical about that completion date.
But with warmer weather and a year's worth of experience behind them, officials are confident about a smooth finish.
"There are fewer unknowns this time around," said Randy Recklaus, assistant city administrator.
The county will be re-timing traffic signals on Fabyan Parkway to better move cars in the area, he said.
Still, police are suggesting motorists use Kirk or Randall roads to go north or south, in order to keep Routes 25 and 31 clearer.
The city will be monitoring traffic in the area to see if any more measures are necessary, Recklaus said.
The long closure is necessary to pour a final "cap" of concrete over both sides of the road, sandblast the bridge, and add lane striping and streetscaping.
