Elgin repairs? Let's count the ways
So your Elgin street resembles a quarry and the Hummer is in the shop.
What to do?
Don't sweat it too much because your neighborhood might be on the city's to-do list for this summer.
Elgin city leaders recently diverted $6 million from golf course renovations to bolster the street repair and resurfacing program.
"We are taking money that is already in the budget and shifting it," City Manager Femi Folarin said.

Normally, the city repaves and resurfaces about 10 miles a year.
This year, the city will hit 43 miles, city spokeswoman Sue Olafson said.
City officials are likely to hire construction companies later this month or in May. The work is expected to hit high gear in June.
Finding out whether your street, avenue or cul de sac is on the list could be a bit tricky.
The public works department has a spreadsheet breaking down every area that will be fixed. It's 47 pages long and can't be printed verbatim here.
But some subdivisions include Parkwood, Wing Park Manor, Cobbler's Crossing, Valley Creek, River Bluff and Randall Ridge.
Other roads include streets in the city's southwest quadrant, northeast quadrant and southeast quadrant around Elgin High School, along with Franklin Boulevard and Preston Avenue and parts of Pennsylvania Avenue, Brandt Drive, Hill Avenue and Division Street.
City leaders are working on an interactive map for the city's Web site, www.cityofelgin.org.
"We are pulling it all together where people can click on their subdivision and see what the game plan is," Olafson said. "We are really trying to focus on providing good customer service."
By early May, the list should be condensed into a readable form in the city newsletter.
David Lawry, the city's general services director, acknowledged some roads in dire need of repair are not on the list. Those areas, he said, have improvements planned in coming years.
