Rezko makes another bid to be released on bond
Attorneys for Antoin "Tony" Rezko filed a motion Thursday seeking his release from custody. The motion suggests as many as four conditions for release: that friends of Rezko post $8 million bond in the form of properties equaling that value; that Rezko and his wife, Rita, post $350,000 cash bond; that he be released to his wife's custody, with her assuming responsibility for his whereabouts; and that he wear an electronic monitor.
Prior to the trial's opening, Rezko had been free on bond until late January, when presiding Judge Amy St. Eve learned that he had been wired $3.5 million from a Middle East billionaire and failed to report that transaction to the court.
Deeming the Syrian-born Rezko a flight risk at that point, she ordered him held without bond.
Prosecutors opposed Thursday's motion, saying Rezko has lied to the court, that he remains a flight risk and that the properties offered for bond fall well short of $8 million in combined value. St. Eve took the motion under advisement.
