Little League

Opening day: "Play ball" will be heard on Saturday for the Tri-Cities Little League Association as players and coaches open their 2008 season. Ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. at the Randall Oaks baseball complex behind Dundee Middle School, along Route 72.

The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. for 650 young baseball players from East and West Dundee and parts of Carpentersville, Algonquin and Gilberts.

They range in age from 5 to 18 years old. Games will be played at the Randall Oaks complex, owned by the Dundee Township Park District, as well as South End Park in West Dundee and a ball diamond in Westminster Glen neighborhood in Carpentersville. In conjunction with the Tri-Cities Little League opening day, New York Life Insurance Company will host a free Child Safety Festival from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, offering fun activities to parents and children while teaching important lessons about how to stay safe at home, at play and in the community.

Football

Gilberts youth football: The Gilberts Grizzlies youth football program and cheerleading will hold registration from noon to 4 p.m. in the first-floor meeting room at the Eagles Club, 325 Raymond Drive in Gilberts.

The Gilberts Youth Football program participates in the Pop Warner Youth Football League which includes teams from Elgin and Hoffman Estates. The top teams will be seeded in a playoff system at the end of the regular season, and will play for a Super Bowl championship. For information, visit www.gyfca.com.

Fundraiser

Booster Club: Burlington Central High School's Athletic Booster Club is planning its annual "Draw Down Fundraiser" on Saturday at the Eagles Club, 325 Raymond Road, Gilberts. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the draw-down beginning at 7 p.m.

There is a $5 cover charge at the door. The evening includes refreshments, cash bar, raffles, silent auction, 50/50 and a DJ. Raffle tickets and 50/50 chances are available the night of the event. A Draw Down ticket purchase is not required to attend the fundraiser; however, the $100 Draw Down ticket may be available to interested participants.
