Elgin man indicted on child porn charges

An Elgin man was indicted by a grand jury Tuesday on 18 child pornography charges, authorities said.

Christopher E. Newsom, 37, was formally accused of 14 counts of possession of child pornography and four counts of possession of child pornography with the intent to disseminate, Kane County prosecutors said.

Newsom, of the 400 block of Wing Park Boulevard, was arrested March 14 after police searched his home and found sexually explicit movie files and images, prosecutors said.

The search was based on a tip local and state authorities received from federal agents.

Newsom is free on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to be in court again May 8 before Judge Grant Wegner.

Also indicted Tuesday for child pornography were Vernor P. Gumila, 39, and Shawn C. Bowlden, 33, both formerly of St. Charles, prosecutors said. The two roommates and former gymnastics coaches have been on bond since they were charged last October.

Scott J. Nuxoll, 20, of St. Charles, also was indicted on child pornography allegations. He also is free on bond and set to show in court again May 8, prosecutors said.
