Trial of Zion man accused of murder postponed

Trial postponed

A Lake County judge said Monday the trial of a Zion man accused of murdering his daughter and another girl in 2005 will not start April 21 as scheduled. Jerry Hobbs III faces the death penalty if convicted of killing his daughter Laura, 8, and her friend Krystal Tobias, 9, in a Zion Park. Defense attorneys told Circuit Judge Fred Foreman that evidence they sent to a California lab for testing had not yet been returned to them, and they were unable to give the evidence to prosecutors seeking to do their own tests. Foreman took the case off his trial calendar and told the parties to return to court April 30 so another trial date could be set.
