3 hurt in Round Lake Beach crash

Round Lake Beach Police were investigating a traffic accident Monday afternoon at Route 83 and Rollins Road that took out a traffic signal and sent three people to hospitals.

Deputy Chief Rich Chiarello said a driver was traveling west on Rollins in a minivan about 2:10 p.m. and crossed into eastbound lanes. The minivan continued over a curb and struck some signs and a traffic signal at the southeast corner before continuing onto Route 83, striking two other vehicles in the intersection.

All three vehicles were entangled at the southwest corner of the intersection, Chiarello said. The driver of the minivan and one of the other drivers were take to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. A third driver was taken by Flight For Life helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with spinal injuries, he said.

Debris from the signal struck a fourth vehicle, but it was not immediately known if that person required medical attention.

There were no passengers in any of the vehicles, according to Chiarello. Other details were not immediately available.

No tickets were issued pending further investigation.
