LF attack stuns Wildcats

All Libertyville's soccer girls could do afterward was shake their heads.

The Wildcats opened North Suburban Lake Division play Monday with a 6-3 loss to Lake Forest on the artificial turf at Libertyville High School.

Libertyville entered the game with only one loss, while Lake Forest had yet to suffer a defeat this season.

After the game, the Wildcats hung around and discussed their performance at length.

"Good news -- our kids are more than disappointed with their performance," Libertyville coach Scott Schinto said. "I said what I needed to say with my kids. Bottom line, I still love my kids, they play hard, I believe in them, but today was horrible. The only place we can go from here is up. We've got to be better and we will be better."

The Wildcats (5-2-1) fell behind 3-0 in the first half as Lake Forest was clearly the aggressor.

"We weren't here today," Schinto said. "We were incredibly unorganized on things we've been doing all year.

"Lake Forest is a good team, but we're not that bad."

The Scouts (5-0, 2-0) got their first goal in the fifth minute when Megan Bourne scored from a Haleigh McPeek assist.

McPeek added a goal seven minutes later. Caroline Martin scoring on a header off a Holly Wark corner kick in the 25th minute to make it 3-0.

Haley Pike got Libertyville on the board in the 37th minute off a Christine McCracken assist.

However, Lake Forest added three more goals in the second half. Two of them headers, by Wark and Martin. The other goal was scored by Kelsey Goon.

"I was focused this game," said Martin, whose goals were her first two of the season. "You have to make sure you time your runs and watch where the ball goes."

Pike also scored on a penalty kick, while Meghan Buhrman had the Wildcats' other tally.

"At times we clicked offensively," Lake Forest coach Ty Stuckslager said. "We didn't finish all of our chances. We played very well and the girls gave them fits all over.

"Giving up three goals, I'm a little disappointed, but overall our play was outstanding."
