Sefolosha struggling
A few weeks ago, Thabo Sefolosha was looking like one of the few bright spots for the Bulls this season. The 6-foot-7 Switzerland native averaged 11.9 points and 5.7 rebounds during 22 games as a starter.
But he left the starting lineup in late February after missing six games with a groin injury and hasn't been the same since. During seven games in April, Sefolosha has averaged 3.6 points and 4.4 rebounds in 22.2 minutes, while shooting 36 percent from the field.
The second-year guard has no explanation for his recent slump and doesn't feel the groin injury is slowing him down anymore.
"I wasn't really in a good flow the last few games," he said after scoring 5 points in 30 minutes Sunday against Orlando. "I don't know exactly where it comes from. My shot hasn't been falling the way it was. I don't know.
"We've got two more games, so I'm just going to try to work my butt off, because after that I know I've got the summer to relax and come back ready (for workouts) in a couple weeks."
Gray's summer job: Coach Jim Boylan was asked before Sunday's game to recommend a plan of action for rookie center Aaron Gray this summer.
"He's not going to be anyone who has great quickness, but he can certainly improve in some areas," Boylan said. "The one thing for him, I believe, is to get as fit as he possibly can.
"Any sport, whether it's The Masters, you look at those golfers now … tennis … those guys are physically fit people. You look at the other NBA teams and see a Dwight Howard. Those guys are physically fit and that's what you need to be.
"Now Aaron's size is a benefit to him. He has a big, wide body and he uses it well. Combine that with a better fitness level and I think he could be a solid contributor."
No brother envy: Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy was asked if his younger brother Jeff, former coach of the New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets, has expressed a desire to return to the bench. The Bulls will be looking for a coach if they choose not to bring back interim boss Jim Boylan.
"He hasn't said that yet," Stan Van Gundy said. "So we'll see what happens, but he has not said that to this point. I think he's enjoying what he's doing (broadcasting games)."
Bull horns: Orlando and the Bulls combined to hit 8 of 11 shots from 3-point range in the first quarter Sunday. Andres Nocioni hit all 3 of the Bulls' 3-pointers. … Former Illinois center James Augustine played the final three minutes and recorded his 15th basket of the season for Orlando.
