Cougars sweep, now 10-0

It took the Kane County Cougars 24 innings of baseball on Sunday to sweep a doubleheader against the host Peoria Chiefs, but it was worth the wait, as the Cougars improved their record to 10-0 and tied a franchise record for most consecutive victories. They took Game 1, 2-1, before a 17-inning marathon in Game 2 ended with a 6-4 win.

Scott Mitchinson (1-0) was the winning pitcher in the opener, working 5 innings of 1-run, 5-hit ball before Scott Moore handled the final 2 innings for his first save. Michael Lissman's homer in the first off Zach Ashwood made it 1-0, and after the Chiefs tied it in the second, Todd Johnson delivered a sacrifice fly in the fourth for what became a 2-1 final.
