11 years for Naperville car theft
A 20-year-old man was sentenced today to 11 years in prison for stealing a woman's rental car at gunpoint outside a Naperville hotel.
Denard S. Plunket, of South suburban Dolton, pleaded guilty to felony vehicular hijacking for the May 3 crime on Naperville's north side.
A 47-year-old woman told police an armed man took off with her black Chevrolet Impala after threatening her with a gun outside Homestead Village, 1827 Centre Point. She was not injured.
The assailant last was seen driving east toward Diehl Road. Police obtained a lead more than a week later when Calumet City detectives found the stolen car in Dolton while investigating Plunket's possible involvement in two home invasions in Calumet City and Lansing.
DuPage Circuit Judge Michael Burke sentenced Plunket, who is eligible for parole after serving half of the 11-year prison term. He still faces the felony home invasion charges in Cook County.
