Rockets suffer their 1st loss
Byron senior Lindsay Nauman stroked a seventh-inning double to drive in the game's only run as Byron (6-3) upset the Burlington Central softball team Friday on Rocket Hill.
Burlington Central junior Mackenzie Scott allowed just that 1 hit and had 18 strikeouts but she walked Byron's leadoff hitter in the seventh. The Tigers then sacrificed her to second before Nauman's game-winning hit.
Nauman was also the winning pitcher, throwing a 1-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Lyndsay Lange's double to lead off the seventh inning was the only hit for the Rockets (7-1), who had the bases loaded in the fifth inning but failed to score.
"They executed and we didn't," said BC coach Scot Sutherland, whose team opens the Big Northern East season at rival Marengo on Monday.
