Ted Nugent returning to Ribfest

The Motor City Madman is coming back for seconds.

After a raucous performance at Naperville's Ribfest in 2005, Ted Nugent has been booked to once again headline the main stage. This time he opens the four-day festival July 3.

"He's a proven draw," said Ribfest Chairman Don Emery. "He did well for us last time and with the combination of that and that he's opening, we expect it to be a huge day."

Nugent is known for his wild stage antics, conservative political views and pro-hunting stance. Organizers from the Naperville Exchange Club said the show will be for "all ages" just like it was in 2005, though some at that show felt Nugent might have been a little much for youngsters.

"We're all getting older," Emery said, "and I think we all tend to mellow a little bit."

Nugent joins a Miller Lite main stage lineup that already includes REO Speedwagon on July 4 and Trace Atkins on July 6.

Organizers also have booked Big Head Todd and The Monsters for opening night on the second stage. Foghat makes a return to Ribfest as well, headlining the second stage Saturday night.

Emery said the club sent out a contract to line up a main stage performer for July 5, but wouldn't reveal who its trying to book.

"We're trying to balance out the event," he said. "That's the best way to get people to respond to it."
