Some ideas for our state legislators

I recently read a newspaper article that a congressman or senator of the State of Illinois in the Peoria area is recommending a change in the tax rates for people who earn a certain level of income.

I suggest that legislation be proposed that will tax politicians in state offices, whether they be state, county, or city, 50 percent of their salary. In addition, I propose legislation that they will be limited to no more than $100,000 per year as a public servant.

Those tax funds can be used to promote public services that they are promoting when they present their budgets. It will also make them better public servants, since they will be entering public office not for the money they can make, but for the public service they can perform.

Since we have no control over how much they are allowed to raise their own salaries, perhaps this is a cure for that unfortunate situation.

On a separate issue, we should consider term limits for our state and local representatives. The business community of this state has suffered greatly due to their policies. It is about time we return to the Land of Lincoln from the Land of Stinkin'.
