Briefs: Rickert named chairman

Kane County Treasurer David Rickert was recently elected chairman of the Illinois County Treasurers Association for Zone IV, which includes Cook County and the collar counties, he announced this week. "I look forward to working with our members to encourage good customer service and to promote efficient operations to reduce costs," Rickert, who also is training chairman for the association, said in a statement. "We must always remember we were elected to serve the public." Rickert, a certified public accountant, has been Kane County treasurer since 1998. In his new role, he will be assisted by Will County Treasurer Pat McGuire, who also was elected by the association, to the post of zone treasurer.

'Senior' cats available

Homes for Endangered and Lost Pets will have a cat and kitten adoption drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at National City Bank, 2600 E. Main St., St. Charles. The event will include some of the nonprofit agency's "senior" cats as well as kittens and younger adult cats. All animals have had vaccinations, parasite control treatment, spaying or neutering, viral testing and microchipping. Adoption fees vary. Little Acorns day next week

The Kane County Forest Preserve District will have its monthly Little Acorns program for 4- and 5-year-olds Thursday at Tekakwitha Woods in St. Charles Township. The event includes stories, hikes, songs, games and crafts. Admission is $5 per child. Participants should register in advance by calling (847) 741-8350, extension 10. East to host flag clinic

Children in first through ninth grades can learn basic flag techniques, dance steps and flag tosses from the St. Charles East High School color guard at an April 19 clinic. St. Edward special auction

St. Edward Central Catholic High School will hold its 19th annual Tidal Wave Auction / Dinner Dance April 19 at the Stonegate Centre in Hoffman Estates. The theme will be Puttin' on the Ritz.
