Man accused of possible bomb explosion
A DeKalb man was arrested on gun charges Tuesday after an explosion was reported in South Elgin, police said.
Sean A. Harold, 20, of 1053 S. Sixth St., was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
Calls early Monday reported a loud explosion going off in a retention area near Kingsport Drive, police said. Officers went to investigate and found fragments of what might have been a bomb, police said.
The Kane County Arson Investigation Task Force and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called in to help.
Within a day, a tip led to Harold's arrest, police said.
A loaded Glock 17 handgun and an AK-47 assault rifle were found in his truck, police said.
A search of his DeKalb home yielded six more AK-47s, three .308 rifles, four shotguns, one M1 Grand rifle, one AR-15 rifle, five handguns and 18 boxes fully loaded with ammunition, police said.
Harold's bond was set at $1,500 and he was given an April 23 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
