St. John School plans open house

St. John Lutheran School, 109 N. Spring St. in Elgin, will hold an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. today. It is a fully-accredited and state of Illinois-recognized school offering prekindergarten for 3- and 4-year-olds and half-day kindergarten, first through fifth elementary grades and sixth through eighth middle school grades. Jaycees to host poker run Saturday

The Hampshire-Burlington Jaycees will hold its fifth annual Double Deck Poker Run which will be held Saturday.

The stops include Motts Lounge, The Outpost, Corkshire Pub and the Red Ox.

Sign-up begins at Mott's Lounge from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and from there, participants will go on to each bar. The card must be drawn by the end of the hour. Last card to be drawn to qualify will be at 10 p.m. at Mott's Lounge where the party and prizes will be.

The cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple. Individuals who are interested in learning more about the chapter can call (630) 479-0066 or join the group at an upcoming event.

Get tickets for charity hoops game

The South Elgin Police Department takes on the South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District in the second annual Battle of the Badges charity basketball game at 7 p.m. April 18 at Kenyon Woods Middle School, 1515 Raymond St., South Elgin.

The basketball game will benefit Special Olympics and the Special Needs Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Grant Program.

Tickets are $4 per person. Tickets are available at village hall, 10 N. Water St., Fire Station 1, 150 W. State St., or at the door.

Raffle drawings will be held for 50/50 cash raffle, and include tickets to Chicago Bandit, Kane County Cougars, Shamrox, or Chicago Wolves and more. Prizes include gift certificates from area restaurants.

Festivities include games, entertainment, prizes, raffle drawings, and a snack bar.

Cheer on your principal and assistant principal in a three-legged race. Wear your school colors to the game and show your support.
