Illinois House rejects one-a-month limit on handguns

SPRINGFIELD -- An effort to bar Illinois residents from buying more than one handgun a month has failed.
The measure got only 53 of the 60 votes it needed to pass the Illinois House, but the sponsor could bring it back for another vote later.
Democratic Representative Luis Arroyo calls his bill a reasonable response to gun violence in Chicago.
He says limiting people to one gun a month would make it harder for shady dealers to buy dozens of guns and then resell them illegally.
But other lawmakers consider it an infringement on the right to own guns. They say it would be an inconvenience for someone who might want to buy several pistols at a gun show.
