Apply for scholarships if Elk Grove resident

Character Counts Coalition of Elk Grove is handling the Elk Grove Fallen Soldier Memorial Scholarship Program for Elk Grove Village. There will be three awards to be used at a four-year college or university, junior college, trade or vocational school. Two will be for $2,000 each and one for $5,000.

Applicants must be Elk Grove Village residents, U.S. citizens and graduating high school seniors. Along with the application, the following are required: One letter of reference from a teacher, school counselor, coach or principal; one letter of reference from an employer or community member; official high school transcript which includes the grade point average; ACT (Prairie State) and/or SAT scores; and one essay.

Application deadline is 3 p.m. Friday.
