Weather finally slows down Grayslake Central

Grayslake Central's girls soccer team has been fortunate the last few weeks to be able to play on its new artificial turf.

In fact, the Rams have been one of the few area teams to play all of its scheduled games, despite the miserable spring conditions.

However, Mother Nature caught up with Grayslake Central on Tuesday night, when the Rams' game against Johnsburg was suspended because of lightning early in the second half.

The Fox Valley Conference Fox Division opener for both teams was scoreless with 36:36 remaining.

"We wanted to complete the match this evening, but it doesn't make sense to sit around here all night with lightning around," Grayslake Central coach Mike McCaulou said. "We're going to reschedule and complete the game at a later date."

The Rams (4-4) had the better of the play throughout most of the first half while driving rain was coming down. Freshman Kelly Jay had the best scoring chance for Grayslake Central, as she hit the crossbar in the 26th minute.

"Again, it's typical with the way we're playing," McCaulou said. "We're just not finishing our opportunities."

Rams keeper Maggie Klees made a couple of saves against Johnsburg (2-1-1).
