Striking auto workers in central Illinois look to negotiations
PARIS -- About 150 employees at an auto parts plant in central Illinois have been on strike since Sunday, but now they plan to start negotiations.
The United Auto Workers members at the ZF Boge Elastmetall plant in Paris voted to strike over pay and medical benefits. The plant about 50 miles southeast of Champaign makes rubber cushioning products.
UAW Illinois President Dennis Williams says the company wants to freeze pay and charge more for medical benefits.
Company President Greg White says ZF has made a fair offer. White says he isn't sure if the strike will affect the German company's plans to consolidate part of its North American operations in Paris.
