Palatine selects Millstone to coach varsity boys basketball
Coaching has been a family affair for Eric Millstone.
On Wednesday, Millstone was named as the new head varsity boys basketball coach at Palatine.
Millstone's father Doug was the Buffalo Grove boys head coach from 1989-99 and also teamed with Ken Grams to lead Elk Grove's softball program to second place in the state in 1982.
Eric Millstone had been the varsity assistant at Palatine for Ed Molitor, who retired after 32 years at the school, the longest tenure for a boys basketball coach in Mid-Suburban League history.
Millstone went 1-3 at the end of the 2000-01 season when Molitor was sidelined after prostate cancer surgery.
Millstone has been at Palatine for 13 years and teaches English.
He was a Daily Herald All-Area boys basketball special mention selection in 1990 at Buffalo Grove and also played baseball. Millstone also was a varsity baseball assistant at Palatine.
Millstone becomes the seventh Mid-Suburban League boys basketball head coach to have played in the league.
He joins Fremd's Bob Widlowski (Palatine), BG's Ryan O'Connor (Rolling Meadows), Hersey's Steve Messer at his alma mater, Rolling Meadows' Kevin Katovich (Conant), Prospect's John Camardella (Hersey) and Elk Grove's Anthony Furman (Palatine).
The Pirates finished 10-16 last season.
