Fire damages Round Lake home

A fire gutted a home near Round Lake Monday afternoon, killing a cat and dog. Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District firefighters responded to the blaze at 24779 W. Clinton Ave. at 2:14 p.m., said Capt. Bill Rohrs. No one was home at the time of the fire, but two pets died, he said. Rohrs did not give damage estimates but said the home could be considered close to a "total loss." The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said.
