BG baseball field is in bad condition
The Buffalo Grove Bison baseball team deserves better. The players deserve better. The coaches deserve better.
After making a miraculous run last year that put the Bison in contention for a state title and propelled them to the quarterfinals for the first time in school history, the baseball team has become a victim of bureaucracy and apathy.
The season was supposed to kick off last weekend, but obviously the weather has been anything but accommodating. The school's negligence has only compounded the situation.
To put it bluntly, the baseball team's home field is a swampland. It's not even a sandlot; it's a quicksand lot. The conditions are deplorable and, frankly, unacceptable.
Buffalo Grove High School needs to step up to the plate and right this ship.
Year in, year out the football team's needs are given top priority while the baseball team (among others) takes a backseat on the bench of obscurity. With virtually no drainage system in place, the Bison baseball field is highly susceptible to the elements.
I realize asking for change might be unrealistic, but at the very least there should be some maintenance. A tarp would be a good place to start. As it stands, the infield is the most immediate concern. It needs to be drained and dried and raked. It needs kitty litter, or diamond dust, or saw dust, or calcified clay. And it needs to be addressed now.
