Two shooting deaths believed to have been murder-suicide

Police in Chicago say the shooting deaths of an Indiana woman and a Chicago man appear to have been a murder-suicide.

Officer David Banks says 22-year-old Mercedes McCauley of Hammond was shot Sunday night on the city's near northwest side and was pronounced dead a short time later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Police say they found 35-year-old Glenn Martinez about an hour later along Lake Michigan on the city's South Side suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted bullet wound.

Martinez also was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Authorities say Martinez and McCauley apparently had dated.
