Learn how to shop smart

Great Lakes Credit Union, in partnership with the University of Illinois Extension and the YWCA of Lake County, will host a program at Lewis Fresh Market, 2727 W. Grand Ave., Waukegan, from 2 to 3 p.m. April 20 on how to find bargains at the grocery store. A guided tour of the supermarket will be conducted in Spanish by volunteers. Participants will learn how to compare grocery prices, use coupons and ads to save money, and how to buy fresh produce, meats and dairy products. Forest preserves online

Lake County residents can find more information about the forest preserves on a newly renovated Web site, www.lcfpd.org. Features include simplified menus, a search function and a slideshow of scenes from local preserves.

Walk for chaplaincy

Interfaith Chaplaincy Services Inc. will hold its 23rd Annual Walk for Winchester House Chaplaincy Services from 2 to 4 p.m. May 4 at Winchester House in Libertyville. Funds raised by this event will support the chaplaincy program at Winchester House, the Lake County nursing home for the frail and elderly. Congregations in Lake County are invited to form teams of clergy, lay, and youth to walk and secure pledges. Interfaith Chaplaincy Services will split pledges raised by youth walkers 50/50 with the congregation's youth programs. Individual walkers, including your pets, are also welcome.
