Yes, unfortunately, wars are inevitable
"Is war inevitable?"(March 7) asks Mr. Robert Pendleton. So long as man walks our planet, we will have wars, either national, international or personal.
Unfortunately, though man was created good, he was also created with a will which has a strong appetite for "stuff" like power, revenge, greed, lust, jealousy -- not that the will always chooses these characteristics. Man also chooses to love, to be nice to people.
No one is exempt from these strong appetites, not even children. Perhaps you remember the film, "The Bad Seed?"
The protagonist was a pre-teenager who was so hungry for revenge that she tried to kill her brother, Perhaps the author exaggerated, but kids know about revenge.
Wars are appetites on a larger scale, some of them fought over religion. Remember the Crusaders who killed for God?
Today we have one going on in Iraq (and elsewhere) between the Shiites and the Sunnis, each claiming rightful progression from Mohammed. They too kill for God.
So I would answer your question realistically: "Yes, wars are indeed inevitable."
