Wolves fall to Manitoba

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- The Manitoba Moose used 3 straight goals to jump to a 3-0 lead and never looked back en route to downing the Chicago Wolves, 4-1, at the MTS Centre on Wednesday night.

The Wolves (49-20-2-3), who have already clinched the American Hockey League's West Division title, are now tied with the Toronto Marlies for first place in the Western Conference. Both teams have 103 points with six regular-season games remaining. The Wolves' 49 victories rank second overall in the AHL.

Left wing Colin Stuart netted the lone goal for the Wolves and has now scored a goal in three straight games. Linemates Kevin Doell and Andre Deveaux each added assists in the loss.

Manitoba opened the scoring at 14:09 of the first period. Defenseman Danny Groulx took an across-ice pass and snapped a shot from the far circle that went right under the crossbar past Wolves goaltender Ondrej Pavelec.

The Moose took a 2-0 lead on the power play when right wing Colby Genoway's shot from the near point missed the net but bounced off the boards right to center Greg Classen, who tucked a shot just over Pavelec's shoulder at 18:31. Pavelec (30-14-3) stopped 18 shots in the loss
