Cook mess is bigger deal than hate panel

Your current editorial regarding the lack of appointments to the "hate crime" commission by our illustrious governor is laughable.

Two facts come to mind. Black on black crimes are, by far, the most common committed. Sure, an occasional rope is found, tied in suggestive ways or a radio commentator profiles some blacks in a particularly stupid fashion.

But very few instances of robbery, rape and murder occur with Caucasians acting as the perpetrators. Another example of liberal over-reaction.

Secondly, Gov. Rod Blagojevich has done nothing of note since the commencement of his second term, so don't expect much from his offices. I thought it a good sign this year that during the flu season we weren't billed for vaccine.

Two questions arise. What is the vaunted "mission" of this ghostly commission and what powers do they have to do anything about their obvious findings?

Face facts. This is another instance where our elected officials appeared to be excited about an issue that allowed him or her to satisfy the base. They make a short-lived attempt to create yet another commission with a couple of speeches and promptly forget about them. And you wonder why the public has become cynical?

Spend your time and ink on something really important, like the Cook County disaster. Even a small success in this issue would do more than any attempts wasted in liberal "feel good" like this one.
