Students discuss trip to gardens with club
The Algonquin Garden Club recently welcomed three Dundee-Crown High School students, who spoke about what they learned on a visit to the Chicago Botanical Garden in Glenview.
Students Morgan Wiechmann, Amanda Briscolino and Caleb Towers. Gary Swick, their environmental science teacher, traveled with them.
The Algonquin Garden Club offers horticultural grants to area schools each year. Some use the grant to plant flowers on school grounds, while others plant a tree where they feel it is needed. This high school class chose to go on a field trip.
Each of the young people chose an area in the Botanical Gardens that was of great interest to them. Therefore, each spoke on what he/she found was most interesting. They each described what they saw and what they learned from it. For the three of them it ranged from roses to general landscape, design and environmental issues.
The Algonquin Garden Club is a District 1 club, which is a member of the Garden Clubs of Illinois Inc., Central Region, National Garden Clubs Inc.
The club welcomes new members. If you would like to join, call Jean at (847) 458-1770.
