Official: Teacher who abused students viewed pornography at school

URBANA -- A school official says a former teacher who sexually abused 10 students at elementary schools in Normal and Urbana was once suspended for viewing pornography in his classroom.

John Pye is assistant superintendent at the Normal school district, and he testified at a two-day sentencing hearing in Champaign County court that Jon Andrew White was briefly suspended in 2004 for looking at porn.

White will be sentenced Friday morning after pleading guilty in February to eight counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for abusing students at an Urbana school in 2005 and 2006.

White also has pleaded guilty to abusing two students in Normal, near Bloomington, in 2004 and 2005. He'll be sentenced there later this month.
