Black mark on city simply has to go

222 Locust has been a black mark on our city for way too long. Built back in the 1970s, it's out dated and ugly and I'm sure there are structural problems as well. This type of public housing has always been a failure.

The biggest problem is that it attracts crime, drugs and gangs. Is this what the city wants? Do we need this here? Of course not. It has to go.

Come on, city of Elgin, wake up. This building hurts our property values and deters buyers and investors alike. No one wants to visit here let alone buy a home or revitalize a business in this neighborhood.

All the city's great plans mean nothing unless we get rid of this building at 222.

I love Elgin and I have seen it come a long way since I moved here in 1991. But what hurts the most is when I tell someone that I live in Elgin, their response is, "Yuck! You live there?"
