Briefs: Geneva water now softer

Geneva's new water treatment plant is now fully operational and supplying water to the city. Water hardness should decline as the "old" water remaining in the system is mixed with the "new" water. By Friday, city water officials expect the system will have all "new" water with a hardness of four to six grains. Customers might need to adjust or to turn off water softeners. Water hardness can be viewed on a map on the city Web site, www.geneva.il.us. It is measured at 15 sites. For more information, call the water department between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays at (630) 232-1551.
