Films bring state cash

The state's effort to lure movie makers to Illinois is paying off. Gov. Rod Blagojevich's office said the Film Tax Credit enacted in 2003 brought in $155 million for Illinois last year. Blagojevich's office said that amount represents an 80 percent jump from 2006. Blagojevich spokeswoman Ashley Cross said the figure includes all the revenue that came into Illinois because movies were filmed here. Cross said most of that amount comes from the money film crews spent in Illinois on things like hotels and restaurants as well as the money movie companies paid Illinoisans to work on films.
